SIZE: 8,400 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 6 full and 2 half bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Earlier this month singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat sold her residence in Westlake Village, CA, for $1.6 million, the exact same amount she paid for the roughly 3,600 square foot spread in November 2010 and, thanks to the ever-intrepid Yolanda Yaketyyak, we’ve learned that the music industry scion — her daddy took home a Grammy for producing Fleetwood Mac’s seminal “Rumors” album — has significantly upgraded and upsized her residential circumstances with the $6.1 million purchase of a newly built home in guard-gated, celebrity-stocked and equestrian-friendly Hidden Hills.
The newly constructed and mostly one-story mansion sits on 1.14 largely landscaped acres — it’s described in listing details as a “Santa Barbara style estate” — and weighs in at approximately 8,400 square feet with a total of six bedrooms and six full and two half bathrooms plus garage space for four cars.
A gated courtyard entrance leads to the front door and foyer that spills directly in to a large “formal” living room with honey-tinted French oak floors, dark wood beams on the high ceiling, a fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves and a bank of glass doors that slide open and disappear in to the walls.
The formal dining room has a built-in buffet with two wine fridges — one for white and one for red, perhaps — and a bank of French doors that appear to this boozy property gossip to open to the entry courtyard. A butler’s pantry links the dining room to a spacious eat-in kitchen all decked out with blue-veined white granite counter tops on white (or possibly blue-ish white) cabinetry. The full suite of stainless steel appliances includes a 60-inch commercial style range, at least one warming drawer, two dishwashers and a matching pair of side-by-side fridge/freezers.
The six en suite bedrooms include a main floor master suite with sitting area, granite-faced fireplace, a pair of fitted walk-in closets, direct access to the backyard and a stone-tiled bathroom with two separate but equal vanities, a freestanding soaking tub set in front of two large windows, and separate shower stall with frameless glass enclosure.
The mostly single story house does have a second floor that offers a private guest or staff suite, a game room with wood floors and built-in wet bar and a full-carpeted adjoining media lounge with integrated surround sound and a projection system with 120-inch screen.
Extensive patios and loggias surround the house and include a roomy loggia off the main living room and over, by the pool, a sizable pergola over a dining area generously equipped built-in barbecue station and snack counter. The swimming pool has an extra large tanning shelf and an appropriately grand piano shaped attached spa and somewhere, as per listing details, there’s an organic vegetable garden. A deep, wide and thirsty lawn stretches back to a putting green before the manicured grounds give way to the rugged chaparral of the surrounding hillside.
Other high profile home owners behind the Hidden Hills gates include Kris Kardashian and her daughter Kim and her husband Kanye West, showbiz superstar Jennifer Lopez, pop tartlet turned mid-priced apparel mogel Jessica Simpson and her former professional tight end husband Eric Johson, Canadian pop-rapper Drake and germophobe game show host Howie Mandel.
Familial Tidbit: Earlier this year, Miss Caillat’s parents — remember, kids, her father is accomplished record producer Ken Caillat — sold their home in Tarzana, CA, for $1.3 million to in-demand British actor David Oyelowo — he was Louis Gaines in “The Butler” and has at least seven films and one (animated) television series in one stage of production or another — and his actress wife Jessico Oyelowo.
