About six months before Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their “conscious uncoupling” in March 2014 on her — ahem — mindfully curated Goop blog, the Coldplay front man covertly, via inscrutable blind trust, coughed up $6.75 million for a gated estate in the celeb-popular lower-Mandeville Canyon area of Los Angeles that, as we first heard from real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak, and property records attest, was surreptitiously sold in an off-market deal for $12 million. Gossip glossy reports from the fall of 2014 claim Martin purchased the property in question, across the street from an 8,000-square-foot mansion that the largely amicable erstwhile couple (by most accounts) acquired together in June 2012 for nearly $10 million, so he could remain in close proximity to his peculiarly named children, Apple and Moses. Since the sale closed on the down low, not much is publicly known about the current condition of the estate, but according to celebrity real estate scuttlebutt we heard, the hacienda-style house was, like Paltrow’s pad across the street, worked over at great expense by tony decorator Windsor Smith. Property records and other resources indicate that at the time of the acquisition, the multi-winged residence measured more than 7,700 square feet, with five bedrooms and five full and two half bathrooms; and the gated grounds, which stretch to more than half an acre, included an ample motor court, grassy, tree-shaded gardens and lagoon-style swimming pool with waterfall.
Martin and Paltrow together and separately continue to own a heavy-duty handful of luxury residences that include a massive manse in London’s posh Belsize Park, a two-plus-acre estate in the Hamptons, a John Lautner-designed contemporary in a particularly star-packed pocket of Malibu’s Point Dume, and a New York City penthouse they concurrently put up for sale last month at $14.25 million, along with a smaller unit in the same complex priced at $3.35 million.
