YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: In case any of y’all celebrity real estate obsessed children missed it, Australian beau-hunk Chris Hemsworth and Spanish siren Elsa Pataky officially moved their family to his native Australia and hoisted their Malibu mini-mansion up for sale at $6.5 million. The criminally attractive and ferociously built Hemsworth-Patakys purchased the 6,382-square-foot house, nestled in the celeb-saturated Point Dume area and described in listing details as “a marriage of classic Victorian elegance and modern European sensibility,” in June 2013 for $4.8 million from “Crocodile Dundee” star Paul Hogan and his estranged wife, former Julliard-trained actress Linda Kozlowski.
Hidden behind secured gates and a towering privet hedge, the two-story residence opens a central foyer with tightly curled staircase that links to adjoining formal living and dining rooms, the former with fireplace, the latter painted army green, and both, like most of the rest of the house, with fashionable and expensive matte-finished wide plank white oak floorboards. The family room has a semi-circular dining bay and floor-to-ceiling open floating shelves on either side of an unadorned, minimalist fireplace while the snazzily appointed kitchen has a melodramatic, steeply pitched cathedral ceiling and double-wide butcher block topped center island. A small, glass-railed loft area with built-in desk space overlooks the kitchen and an angled, corner fireplace sits next to glass sliders that lead out to the rear terrace. In the main house three en suite guest/family bedrooms are joined by a master suite outfitted with fireplace, semi-circular sitting area, two walk-in closets, and a private, penny-tiled terrace with over-the-treetops ocean view. A separate but attached two-story guesthouse has another bedroom and bathroom along with a lounge where listing photos show a foosball table, a video game machine, and — ahem — a decidedly down-market Coors branded refrigerator. The back of the house opens to a broad, partly trellis-shaded patio that overlooks the property’s down-sloped and terraced grounds. The property lacks a swimming pool — there would seem to be plenty of room to install one — but does have a long, gated drive that runs along the side of the triangular-shaped, one-acre parcel to a detached three-car garage that listing photos show Mister Hemsworth filled with a professional gym’s worth of work-out equipment.
The Hemsworth-Patakys didn’t exactly downsize when they moved Down Under. In fact, they upsized to a secluded, 10-plus acre Balinese-inspired compound in Byron Bay, a bit south of Brisbane. Press reports from the time suggest the lushly landscaped estate cost around $7 million and includes a total of 8 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms spread throughout spacious main residence, a substantial guest cottage, and two additional two-story villas (office, gym, etc.) plus a billiards and games pavilion with 2,500-bottle cellar.
