YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Although married actors Chris Diamantopoulos and Becki Newton have their Hollywood pied-à-terre available for sale outside the Multiple Listing Service with an unpublished asking price, our research shows the colorfully outfitted condo is actually listed on the open market as a fully furnished rental at $4,500 per month, down from its original ask of $5,750 per month.
Property records show the pulchritudinous pair, who met rom-com style at a subway station in New York City, picked up the 1,122-square-foot condo at the full-service Hollywood Versailles Tower in April 2007 for $755,000 and, as some of the children may recall, this isn’t the first time at the rodeo for the Diamantopoulos-Newtons with this one-bedroom and two-bathroom apartment that current online marketing materials describe as both “Like a Chic Hotel Suite” and a “Celebrity Pied a Terre.” In the fall of 2011 the bicoastal couple listed the apartment at $535,000. Nope, that is not a typo. The couple did indeed unsuccessfully attempt to sell the apartment in late 2011 for $225,000 less than they paid for the place.
A narrow entrance hall drops into a wood-floored and window-walled living room sparely but stylishly furnished like a mid-century modern showroom with a gray, low-profile sectional sofa, an ecru and orange flokati shag rug that speaks to Mister Diamantopoulos’ Greek heritage, and two Warren Platner-designed wire-framed easy chairs that this property gossip would happily eat a stranger’s toenails to be able to comfortably afford. A television was smartly mounted into a space-saving custom niche on the wall next to the sofa and a bank of glass sliders open to a balcony with urban views down Hollywood Boulevard. The adjoining dining alcove, with a trio of iconic Eero Saarinen Tulip Chairs around a tiny marble-topped Tulip Table, is backed by vividly multicolored vertically striped wallpaper and the not unexpectedly compact kitchen, a much more monochromatic affair, has flecked gray and white granite countertops, snow-white cabinets with elongated pulls, and white penny tile backsplashes. A row of ceiling height panels in the living room slide open to reveal the condo’s only bedroom that incorporates a dressing area lined with custom wardrobes and an attached bathroom with floating vanity and glass-enclosed shower stall.
Residents of the full-service Hollywood Versailles Tower — just two blocks from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and once home to veteran tabloid staples Tara Reid and Lindsay Lohan — are treated to valet parking and on-site garaging, 24-hour doorman and security services, an exercise facility, and outdoor swimming pool.
Mister Diamantopoulos trod the Broadway boards before landing on a slew of hit television shows that include “The Starter Wife,” “24” and “Arrested Development.” He currently gives voice to the titular character on the 2D animated series “Mickey Mouse” and — at least as far as we’re concerned — slays as an über-douche billionaire venture capitalist on the tech industry skewering series “Silicon Valley.” Since her career boosting four-season stint on “Ugly Betty,” Miz Newton has appeared in a handful of short-lived comedies that include “Love Bites,” “How I Met Your Mother” and, most recently, the self-consciously quirky, little-watched, and quickly canceled “Weird Loners.”
