YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Charlie Sheen has sold the second of three multi-million dollar mansions in the guard-gated Mulholland Estates enclave nestled up in the mountains between Beverly Hills and Sherman Oaks. A few clicks and clacks of the well-worn bead on our handy-dandy bejeweled abacus shows the $5.415 million sale price is $615,000 above the $4.8 million he shelled out for the property in October 2012 — the seller was billionaire investor Tom Gores — but well below its $6.099 million asking price. Sheen reportedly acquired the property so that his third ex-wife, long troubled actress and occasional high-end house flipper Brooke Mueller, and their two young children could live in convenient proximity to his own Mulholland Estates mansion, a 7,924-square-foot Mediterranean he picked in April 2006 for $7.2 million and continues to own.
The split-level residence, which marketing materials describe as a “Warm and inviting Spanish estate,” has five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 6,625-square-feet. A gated and tree-shaded entrance courtyard, where listing photographs show a fountain that appears to slop water all over the terra-cotta tile that surrounds it, leads to an over-sized foyer and step-down formal living room ringed by at least half of a dozen stout carved stone columns. There’s also a formal dining room with mirrored wall panels and French doors to the backyard, a spacious and well-equipped center island kitchen that opens to a family room, a small den/office with lighted bookshelves and corner fireplace, and a screening room with wood beamed ceiling. The back of the house opens to a flat backyard with sprawling tile terraces, a built-in grilling station, fire pit, and swimming pool and spa set into a flat patch of grass.
The house just sold was actually the third Mulholland Estates manse acquired by the former “Two and Half Men” star who in March 2011 paid movie producer Mike Medavoy $7 million for a 9,020-square-foot mock-Med pile that he dumped in December 2015 in an off-market deal for $6.6 million, a pocketbook punishing $400,000 loss not counting carrying costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees. The buyer — a private equity guru who also owns another mansion just around the corner according to ever-in-the-know real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak — flipped the property back on the market in March 2016 with an eye poppingly higher asking price of $9.2 million that inexplicably rose to $9.25 million before it was taken off the market in mid-June (2016). The former Medavoy mansion was occupied Mister Sheen’s second ex-wife, Denise Richards, and their two children while she remodeled her own mansion in the Hidden Hills development near Calabasas, CA, that she now has up for sale at $6.895 million, substantially less than the $7.479 million it was originally priced when it first hit the market in June 2015.
The Mulholland Estates enclave has long attracted high-profile entertainment industry home buyers and current home owners include hotel heiress Paris Hilton, married actors Judith Light and Robert Desiderio, “Wheel of Fortune” letter turner Vanna White, American pop star Christina Aguilera, and British pop star Robbie Williams who, several months after he shelled out more than $32 million for a 24,000-ish-square-foot mansion on three Beverly Hills acres, recently put his nearly 11,000-square-foot Mulholland Esates manse up for sale at $11 million.
Sheen, now 50 and not so long ago the highest paid actor on television, had a gruesome and gruesomely public meltdown in 2011 and last fall (2015) he went public with his HIV+ diagnosis in order to clamp down on extortion efforts by a couple of former girlfriends. Since then he’s become an outspoken advocate for HIV education and awareness, recently signed on pitch condoms for the Swedish intimate products company LELO, and will next appear on the silver screen opposite Whoopi Goldberg and Gina Gershon in the upcoming independent action-drama “Nine Eleven.”
