YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Action/thriller genre stalwart Bruce Willis, now nearly sixty, and his English model/actress wife, 36-year-old Emma Heming, have been quite busy the last few years making babies and shuffling their portfolio of price residential properties.
In early 2013 the procreative couple — they have two children under three — shelled out $8.85 million for U2 bassist Adam Clayton’s spacious apartment at New York City’s venerable, twin-towered Eldorado building on Central Park West and the following summer, after first and optimistically putting it out for sale in the spring of 2013 at $22 million, they finally unloaded a 10,000-plus-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills for $16.5 million.
Right about they time they dumped the BevHills estate they shelled out about $10 million for a picture perfect, multi-parcel spread that overlooks the mighty Hudson River in the bucolic and seriously upscale Bedford community 40-some miles north of Midtown Manhattan. It was only a few months later, in December 2014, that the couple, perhaps stricken with a classic case of The Celebrity Real Estate Fickle or drawn to the possibility of a multi-million profit, listed their newly renovated spread at The Eldorado for $12.995 million. (The three-bedroom and 3.5 bathroom low-floor apartment was quickly put into contract with an unknown buyer for an unknown amount.)
Now comes word the itchy-footed Heming-Willises signed contracts to acquire an even larger, mini-mansion-sized duplex in a Neo-Renaissance-style pre-war building just a few blocks north of The Eldorado and priced at $16,995,000. Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Garry Trudeau and television journalist Jane Pauley once owned a sizable, 10th floor spread they sold in 2005 for $12.995 million to one of the many financiers who own apartments in the 26-unit building.
Listing details show the carefully renovated and well-arranged apartment, which carries monthly maintenance charges that weigh in at a hefty $10,944, measures about 6,000 square feet with 80-feet of park frontage. Elegantly proportioned public rooms are located on the upper floor to take advantage of the view and include a foyer with a dado detail the extends almost all the way to the ceiling, a commodious double-exposure corner living room that’s more than 30-feet long and a formal dining room that, like the living room, has a leafy, through and over the treetops view into Central Park.
Less formal upper level but no less refined family quarters include an expensively fitted eat-in kitchen with chrome-accented cabinetry and an adjacent library/family room lined on at least two walls with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The upper level is completed by a closet-lined mud room with attached double-sink powder room and a discrete, good-sized guest/staff suite with private bathroom and walk-in closet.
Four more ample guest/family bedrooms on the lower floor share a pair of separate but not exactly equal hall baths — one is large and windowed and the other is small on windowless while the master suite, also on the lower floor where it has a tree-top view, is complete with roomy, two-windowed bathrooms and two walk-in closets plus a bedroom-sized and wardrobe-lined dressing room.
