YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A digital missive from always helpful New York City-based celebrity real estate snitch Polly Wannacracker let us know, and property records show, that Bravo bigwig Andy Cohen recently made a $900,000 off-market deal to acquire a studio-style apartment on a high floor of a much coveted and celeb-favored pre-war co-operative building in New York City’s West Village.
Mister Cohen left his influential VP gig at Bravo in 2013 to start his own production company but remains a producer of the various iterations of the extraordinarily successful “Real Housewives of…” franchise and he continues as the amiable and seemingly tireless host of the cable channel’s booze-fueled Bravolebrity-based chat-fest “Watch What Happens: Live.” The recent purchase may seem relatively modest for a man of Mister Cohen’s reality television success but it’s hardly the only unit in the quite pricy full-service building owned by the Emmy winner who can also brag a brag a prestigious Peabody Award for his producing role in the 2004 documentary “The N-Word.” As far as this property gossip can surmise from a careful but unscientific parse of property records, the gym-toned television personality and best-selling memoirist owns at least three other apartments in the building. They include a high-floor studio picked up in 2003 for an unknown sum and a not-contiguous two-bedroom and two-bathroom unit on the same high floor that was scooped up in 2010 and photographed for The New York Times in the spring of 2013. Last April (2014), the co-op hoovering television personality coughed up $2.571 million, a tetch more than the asking price, for a second two-bedroom and two-bathroom unit that sits directly above the two-bedroom spread he bought in 2010 and immediately next door to the studio he acquired last week. We can’t claim any inside intel on what Mister Cohen plans to do with his trio of contiguous apartments — or the fourth non-contiguous one, either — but it’s probably pretty safe to bet the proverbial farm he will make some sort of combination between two or even all three of the contiguous units.
In addition to the two-bedroom spread he bought last spring Mister Cohen’s newly acquired studio is also adjacent to a two-unit combination apartment purchased per property records in 2011 for $2.55 million by Oscar-, Emmy-, Golden Globe-, and People’s Choice Award-winning showbiz pooh-bah Sally Field. We imagine, if they don’t already, the new neighbors will soon be borrowing sugar and dishing industry dirt. Perhaps a home-made zucchini lasagna would entice Miz Field to make her debut on “Watch What Happens: Live”? Stranger things have happened. Anyways, like many New Yorkers with the ability to do so, Mister Cohen keeps a weekend place in the Hamptons, in his case a charming cottage on Noyac Bay in one of the more unassuming if hardly inexpensive areas of hoity-toity East Hampton.
