YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was from the friendly celebrity property gossips at 6sqft.com we first heard word that occasionally bombastic and beaver busy Tinseltown veteran Alec Baldwin — he has more than half of a dozen film and television projects in various stages of production — appears he might actually make good on his much publicized threat to leave New York City due to the constant scrutiny by the ravenous tabloid media that, he furiously pronounced in New York Magazine in early 2014, had made his beloved, long-time city an unlivable place for him and his family. Perhaps the previously proud New Yorker plans to trade New York for Los Angeles or some other locale and maybe he’s doesn’t but whatever the situation he has, according to property records, shed one of the three apartments he and his yoga instructor wife, Hilaria, own at the swanky Devonshire House building in Greenwich Village. Mister Baldwin purchased the 8th floor one-bedroom and one bathroom unit in 2013 for $2.25 million and first made it for sale in March (2015) at $2.35 million. Alas, the apartment sold to an inscrutable corporate concern for just $2.1 million, a not insignificant $150,000 loss, not counting improvements, upkeep, and real estate costs. Listing details show the 840-square foot apartment was “rarely used by its owner” and finished with four-inch oak floors and solid core doors. The compact but well-equipped galley style kitchen has top-end appliances and a puny dining space while the apartment’s bathroom, discreetly located off a brief corridor that links the living room to the bedroom, has “Calcutta marble” counter tops and a radiant heated basket weave pattern Thassos marble tile floor.
In addition to a multi-acre spread in East Hampton, NY, that Mister Baldwin bought, per property records, with his previous wife, Kim Basinger, in two separate but contiguous 1996 transactions that totaled $1.8 million, the Baldwins continue to own a far more spacious and considerably more costly, 4,137-square-foot duplex penthouse at Devonshire House that they acquired in October 2011 for $11.709 million as well as a neighboring one-bedroom and one-bathroom unit that was scooped up by Missus Baldwin in June 2012 for $1,210,950. Somewhat strangely, the Baldwins’ double-terraced penthouse popped up for rent this last spring with a price of $30,000 per month but the listing evaporated into the digital ether within days.
