The hard-working Penny Pincher may struggle to come up with a median price of almost $1,800 a month for a dumpy one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles, but it’ll cost a far more financially fortunate splendor-seeking renter a bloodcurdling $150,000 per month to secure a short-term lease on the unapologetically opulent six-bedroom mansion of former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Adrienne Maloof. The entrepreneurial television personality — the erstwhile shoe designer currently hawks a line of glitzy costume jewelry — acquired the San Fernando Valley estate in a guard-gated enclave in the mountains between Beverly Hills and Sherman Oaks in 2013, for $12.75 million.
Though not listed on the open market, digital rental listings we stumbled on show the 8.5-bathroom, ersatz Mediterranean mansion measures in at more than 14,000-square-feet. Apparently Ms. Maloof never met a Rococo-style anything she didn’t like or buy, as evidenced by the florid and liberally gilded furnishings that fill the double-height foyer and the flanking formal living and dining rooms that feature palatially swagged and tasseled drapery. Extensive family quarters include a gigantic office, screening room, a double-island kitchen designed to accommodate a kosher diet, and — at approximately 2,500 square feet — a sprawling family room area that’s about the size of the average American home. In addition to a master suite with dual bathrooms and dressing rooms, there are five, theme-decorated guest/family bedrooms: One has two beds built into skateboard ramps, and another has a wall-sized mural of Batman and Gotham City. The gated, secured and landscaped grounds include plenty of parking, a wide swathe of well-watered lawn, an arched loggia with panoramic view, an outdoor kitchen and barbecue station, a semicircular infinity-edge pool and spa, and a separate, self-contained poolside guesthouse.
Maloof and her ex-husband, plastic surgeon and reality-TV regular Paul Nassif (“Botched”), previously owned a gargantuan faux-chateau in the world-renowned, if oft maligned, Beverly Park development — a property that was sold for $20 million in 2013, in the aftermath of their contentious, tabloid-documented divorce.
