YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Though they bought it just two years ago for $2.965 million, comedian, veteran television personality and occasionally and unapologetically controversial podcast superstar Adam Carolla and his wife, Lynette Paradise, have hoisted their 1920s Spanish hacienda-style house in the L.A.’s wealthy suburban community of La Cañada-Flintridge back on the market, as was first spotted by the eagle-eyed property gossips at the L.A. Times, with an asking price of $3,495,000. Listing details say the “current celebrity owner was attracted to the original details” of the gated residence that measures in at 4,001-square-feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. As attractive as the original details may have been, they were apparently not enough to hold the couple’s interest for more than two years but none-the-less include terra-cotta tile floors, exposed wood ceilings and “original hardware on the doors.”
A deep and friendly front porch and proper entrance hall leads to a fair-sized and sparely — some might say barely — furnished formal living room that features a high and lovely hand painted ceiling with clerestory windows and exposed wood beams. The room’s fireplace is surrounded, per listing details, by “authentic bachelder tiles that the owner handpicked and installed himself.” (We assume what is meant is that Mister Carolla picked and installed Arts and Crafts era Batchelder tiles and not “bachelder tiles” but, anyways…) Multi-paned sliding glass and French doors in both the living room and the unexpectedly roomy formal dining room open to the aforementioned front porch and overlook a flat, freeform expanse of tree-shaded and foliage-bordered lawn. Less formal family quarters include a terra-cotta tile floored family room under a soaring, exposed wood ceiling and a skylit double-wide galley-style kitchen with faux-painted or maybe faux-distressed wood cabinetry, a peninsula snack counter, and over-sized step-down laundry area.
The bedrooms open off a corridor as long as a bowling alley and include a master suite where at the touch of a remote control button a television drops down out of the ceiling between the tan carpeted and periwinkle walled bedroom and open dressing area. The updated bathroom, where our investigation reveals the Carolla-Paradises replaced a pair of matching carved wood vanities with a much more sleek and contemporary double-sink situation, has original or at least vintage looking tiles on the floor, around the bathtub and in the partly glass-enclosed shower stall. The French doors in the master bedroom open to another deep and inviting veranda that steps down to a broad expanse of drought-friendly artificial turf that separates the back of the house from the swimming pool and spa area. Beyond the pool there’s a three car detached garage with basketball hoop-equipped parking pad.
As affluent and desirably outside the usual orbit of paparazzi as LaCañada-Flintridge is, it’s not really all that popular with famous folk. That said, Vince Vaughn and his wife, Canadian born real estate agentKyla Weber, happen to own a picturesque Colonial next door to the Carolla casa that they picked up in April 2013 for $3.925 million.The Carolla-Paradises continue to own a walled and gated Spanish-style estate in the secluded Hollywood Knolls neighborhood near Lake Hollywood that they bought in 2003 for $1.63 million and listed for lease in early 2014 at $13,500 per month but over they years they’ve owned a variety of properties in the Los Angeles area including a 1.7-acre spread in Malibu’s celeb-favored Point Dume area that they acquired in April 2007 for $3.6 million and unloaded last December (2014) for the exact same price to Kate Hudson’s former fiancée and baby daddy, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
