YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It seems hardly a month or two goes by anymore that Adam Carolla doesn’t make an appearance in the property gossip columns. Hot on the heels of hoisting his Hollywood Hills estate up for sale, the sleuthy property gossips at the L.A. Times sussed out that the veteran radio host, podcast superstar, and reality television host (“Catch a Contractor”) quietly shelled out $2.5 million for a well-kept if remarkably unassuming 1960s contemporary in the prosperous L.A. suburb of La Cañada Flintridge.
Online marketing materials show the all-but preserved-in-amber, 3,980-square-foot residence, a fairly ordinary ranch house at the front that morphs into a modern-minded chalet sort of thing from the back, packs in five bedrooms and four vintage bathrooms done in a variety of sherbet-y colored ceramic tiles. A short foyer drops into a roomy combination living/dining room with medium toned grey-ish brown wood floors that are definitely not original to the house, a white brick fireplace shoved up into one corner, a vaulted ceiling where the ridge beam is lined with unsightly track lights, and floor-to-ceiling windows that form the shape of a stout arrow that points heavenward. There are not just one but two complete and, in all honesty, completely outdated kitchens along with two family rooms set at opposite ends of the house. The central living/dining room and both of the satellite family rooms open through old-school glass sliders to a deck that spans the full width of the back of the house. The deck overlooks a flat yard that does have some basketweave-pattern brick terracing, freshly installed sod, and wee fern garden but does not have a swimming pool, spa or, as has become ubiquitous in nearly every multi-million dollar home in the Los Angeles area, a built-in fire pit.
This is not the first house in La Canada Flintridge owned Mister Carolla and his podcasting wife, Lynette Paradise. In July 2013 they shelled out $2.965 million for a 3,992-square-foot hacienda-style house — it’s right next door to a home owned by Vince Vaughn and literally just around the corner from the one they just bought — that they lightly refurbished and sold in September (2015) for $3.39 million. Since April 2003, when it was purchased for $1.63 million, the couple has owned a double-gated and highly customized estate at the top of the Hollywood Knolls neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills that they set our for rent early last year at $13,500 per month and several weeks ago made available for sale on the open market at $5,299,000.
