As 2020 came to an end, West Coast-based power couple Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford set their deep-pocketed real estate sites to the east, to south Florida, where an unimpeachable source swears the legendary supermodel and the tequila baron plunked down $9.625 million for a waterfront home along one of Miami Beach’s most exclusive and celeb-favored streets.
All but hidden in lush tropical landscaping, the slightly bigger than 3,800-square-foot midcentury home was built in 1955 and sits on more than one-third of an acre with an unobstructed view across the glittering water of Biscayne Bay. The house retains many original period details, such as vaulted exposed wood ceilings, a statement stone fireplace and long sweeps of floor-to-ceiling windows. Still, the five-bedroom and 4.5-bath home will presumably get a sophisticated (and costly) overhaul that hopefully includes replacing the muddy-brown floor tiles. A huge, deep and partly covered porch outside the primary living spaces overlooks a simple rectangular swimming pool surrounded by paver-tiled terracing and thick lawns. Despite its high price, plum location, and direct water frontage, the property is one of the only waterfront homes on the street not to have a private dock.
The property was listed with Mirce Curkoski and Albert Justo of The Waterfront Team at One Sotheby’s International Realty; The Crawford-Gerbers were represented in the transaction by Esther Percal of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices EWM Realty.
Past residents of the long, sinuous street that snakes along the western edge of Biscayne Bay include Ricky Martin, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, while a few of the many high-profile peeps who currently maintain waterfront homes on the same stretch of road include former Gap and J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler and global entertainer Shakira, whose had her place for sale on and off since 2013. Michael Bay bought his ultra-modern manse in 2007 for $17 million from Hulk Hogan, Phil Collins dropped $33 million on an estate once owned by Jennifer Lopez, though he’d reportedly like to sell it for $40 million if he could only evict his ex-wife and her new husband, and last August Jared Kushner and Karlie Kloss paid hospitality honcho Keith Menin $21.5 million (plus a couple million more for furnishings) for a nearly 15,000 square foot spread with a particularly photogenic swimming pool.
The Crawford-Gerbers are property gossip column regulars who maintain a fat and frequently in-flux portfolio of homes. Their current holdings include a beachfront spread in Malibu, where they sold a smaller property last year for $6.65 million, a contemporary home in the Trousdale Estates area of Beverly Hills they acquired in 2017 for $11.625 million from musician Ryan Tedder and now have for sale at close to $16 million, and a nearly 6,000-square-foot home in the wealthy desert community of La Quinta that they snatched up in 2019 for $5.4 million.
