Between the both of them, Malcolm and Nichelle Tramble Spellman have penned and produced some of the top TV shows in the business — “The Good Wife,” “Truth Be Told,” “Empire,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “Bel-Air,” just to name a few — and also co-launched a production company under The 51 banner, complete with a lucrative first-look deal at HBO. Now the successful husband-and-wife duo is funneling some of their earnings into real estate, picking up a stately mansion in a historic neighborhood of Los Angeles that’s adjacent to posh Hancock Park.
Records show the showbiz pair doled out just under $3.4 million for the Spanish Revival residence, which was originally built way back in the early 1920s and has since been extensively remodeled from top to bottom. First listed in March for a speck under $3 million, the place went to the pair in May for around $350,000 over the asking price.
The Spellman’s newly acquired house is sited on almost a quarter-acre parcel of land, and features four bedrooms and four baths spread across a little more than 4,000 square feet of living space boasting rich hardwood floors, and the original casement windows and wood staircase. There’s also a glitzy speakeasy-style bar holding court in the redesigned basement, plus a detached two-car garage out back.
Separated from the wide tree-lined street by a manicured lawn dotted with palm trees, the creamy-hued stucco and terracotta-roof structure has a gated driveway off to the side. An arched wood front door opens into an entrance hallway that flows to a formal living room boasting a custom floor-to-ceiling mirrored fireplace and handy bar nook on one side, and a chandeliered living room with a decorative wine display on the other.
Opposite the dining room lies a casual dining area that connects to a gourmet kitchen equipped with quartz countertops, cobalt blue cabinetry, a center island, walk-in pantry, and top-tier Sub-Zero and ZLINE appliances. Both rooms spill out to the backyard, which is ideal for al fresco entertaining with an expansive tiled patio and trellised lounge area with an outdoor kitchen.
Upstairs, four bedrooms include a duo of primary suites — one with a private balcony and jetted tub, and a larger one outfitted with a spa-inspired bath sporting a gold-hued soaking tub and glass-encased shower. Two additional bedrooms share a hall bath with dual vanities and a jetted tub, as well as a walk-in closet and balcony.
