After more than a decade, Chris Weitz is selling his live-work space resting along bustling Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. The Hollywood director, screenwriter and producer — probably best known for the films “American Pie,” “About a Boy,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Pinocchio” — is seeking a smidge less than $5.5 million for the property that he picked up for $3.8 million in summer 2011.
Weitz, 52, was born in New York City, where he recently listed a Manhattan co-op for around $6 million. In Los Angeles, he just doled out $7.7 million for a residence in the coveted Alphabet Streets section of Pacific Palisades and also still maintains an oceanfront Malibu getaway he bought in 2008. But for several years now, Weitz and his brother Paul have used the Venice locale as headquarters for their Depth of Field film production company.
Built in the early 2000s and designed by architect Mark Mack, the architectural-style structure includes five bedrooms and four baths spread across a little more than 4,200 square feet of flexible living space on three levels. Per the listing, the place could ideally serve as a “cutting-edge creative office space, live-work artist residence, gallery, studio or stunning private home.”
Open-concept interiors are adorned throughout with hardwood floors, large expanses of glass and skylights. A living room, two offices/bedrooms and double-height atrium can be found on the first floor; and the second floor hosts a mezzanine, along with a family room and dining area that connect to a wood-paneled kitchen outfitted with high-end stainless appliances — all spilling out to an enclosed patio clad in stone and painted a reddish hue.
Three additional bedrooms hold court on the third floor, complete with a spacious master retreat offering a private balcony, dual closets, and a spa-inspired bath equipped with a floating vanity and glass-encased shower. There’s also an attached five-car garage, plus extra room for two more vehicles.
The listing is held by Juliette Hohnen of Douglas Elliman.
