After more than six years in residence, veteran Tinseltown writer-producer Laurie McCarthy has listed her comfortably appointed home in the sought after Silver Triangle neighborhood in L.A.’s increasingly desirable and expensive Studio City community with an asking price just short of $3.2 million, a nice return on the $2.1 million paid for the then brand-spanking-new house in 2014.
McCarthy got her start on the no-longer-on-air soap story “Loving” before she went on to write and produce for the original 1990s primetime cult series “Beverly Hills, 90210.” She later wrote and produced the Jennifer Love Hewitt-starring supernatural series “Ghost Whisperer” before co-creating, writing and producing the historical romantic drama “Reign,” which concluded in 2017 after four seasons.
Charmed up with a knee-high white picket fence around the petite and drought tolerant front garden, the grey-shingled home is a classically Californian mash-up between a traditional East Coast Cape Cod cottage and a new-fangled (and nowadays almost comically ubiquitous across Los Angeles) modern farmhouse with five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms in close to 3,700 square feet.
Along with traditional moldings, ceilings that soar to more than nine feet, custom millwork and hardwood floors, the residence offers modern light fixtures and an in-ceiling speaker system throughout most of the house.
Adjoining formal living and dining rooms, the former with a grey marble fireplace and the latter with a coffered ceiling, are complemented by an informal great room that comprises the high-end eat in kitchen and fireplace warmed family room where a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows fold open to the backyard.
The family-sized home’s five pastel-colored en suite bedrooms include on the main-floor for guests or staff, and a second-floor primary retreat with a fireplace, a walk-in closet lined with glass-fronted wardrobes and a lavish bath sheathed in blush-pink marble.
Walled and hedged for privacy, the not particularly big backyard is jam-packed with amenities: a dining loggia outside the family room, a built-in barbecue, a graveled patio with fire pit, and an evergreen swath of artificial lawn alongside the plunge pool and spa.
The listing is held by Dennis Chernov at Keller Williams Sherman Oaks.
