Over the last year or so, on the heels of what’s been described in the press as a “Mega Overall Deal With Universal Television” worth more than $60 million, powerhouse fantasy television writer, producer and showrunner Julie Plec, co-creator of the cult-favorite series “The Vampire Diaries” and its spin off series “The Originals” and “Legacies,” has changed up and upgraded her real estate holdings in Los Angeles.
Six or so months after she shelled out a hefty $6 million for an out-of-the-ordinary compound in a prime Studio City location last year, she shed her spacious West Hollywood home for $3.2 million, well above the $1.95 million paid back in 2011. And now, she’s plunked down another $2.89 million to acquire a six-year-old home described in marketing materials as a “modern Cape Cod” in one of Studio City’s most sought after neighborhoods.
Measuring in at 3,467 square feet, the unassuming and inoffensively ordinary grey-shingled two-story home sits tight on a prairie-flat .14-acre lot with five bedrooms, six bathrooms and three marble fireplaces. There are high-quality wood floors throughout the house and high tech amenities include in-ceiling speakers and up-to-date smart home technology.
The front door opens directly into an intimately proportioned formal sitting room, the ceiling soars grandly to double-height over the staircase and the formal dining area has a full-height interior window that provides a boozy glimpse into a glass-encased wine storage and bar area. Humble beadboard accents and classic white subway tiles in the kitchen are gussied up with polished white marble counters and gleaming, up-to-date stainless appliances, and in the adjoining family room extensive custom built-ins flank the fireplace and a wide bank of glass doors fold open to the backyard.
Each of the four guest bedrooms is well equipped with a private bath – one of the bedrooms is on the main floor and, hence, well suited as a home office or staff suite, while the primary bedroom offers a vaulted ceiling, trellis-covered terrace, fitted walk-in closet and marble bathroom.
While unquestionably modest in size, the fully fenced and hedged backyard manages to comfortably accommodate a number of leisure and recreation options: a petite loggia for al fresco dining and lounging out of the blazing hot San Fernando Valley sun, a roomy built-in barbecue and bar area, a pint-sized patch of grass and a mosaic-tiled spa that spills over into a plunge-sized swimming pool.
Listed as of the many executive producers on the sci-fi drama series “Roswell, New Mexico,” Plec also owns at least two homes in Georgia, where she’s written and produced several series. In addition to a loft-style condo in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park neighborhood that she scooped up seven years ago for $250,000, in 2017 the vampire, witches and aliens obsessed television dynamo ponied up almost a million dollars for a modern getaway in Gainesville, Ga., on the scenic and serpentine shore of huge and popular Lake Lanier, about an hour’s drive outside Atlanta in an area often referred to as the “Poultry Capital of the World” due to the area’s high concentration of poultry processing plants.
