Gotta catch ’em all! While Pokémon and seven terraces in Manhattan’s up-and-coming NoMad nabe might seem to have little in common, it all comes together in this quadruplex penthouse.
The owners, Alfred Kahn and Jillian Crane, made their money by bringing anime, most notably Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, to the United States. Now, the couple’s spacious city-view condo, with 4,400 square feet of interior space and 2,000 square feet of outdoor space spread over those seven terraces (plus a balcony!), is for sale asking $8.995 million via Arlene S. Reed, Rebecca Blacker, Monisha S. Rana, and Josh Tepper at Coldwell Banker Warburg.
Kahn and Crane, who paid just over $5 million in 2012, tried to sell back in 2016 for almost $19 million! Today, the ask is much more realistic though taxes and common charges are still a scorching $17,000 plus per month.
The penthouse is located within Park South Lofts, a boutique, luxury full-service, pre-war condo situated between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue. The building contains just 40 residences, including three penthouses. All boast lofty ceilings and huge windows, and some residences have stone terraces or balconies. It was built in 1922 and converted to condos in 2005.
With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and three half-bathrooms, the four-floor townhouse-like penthouse offers a private elevator as well as custom, high-end built-ins, including a striking brass stairway in the foyer. Indeed, high-end finishes are an obvious hallmark of the apartment: Brazilian cherry wood floors; a mahogany accent wall; de Gournay gold-leafed, hand-painted wallpaper in the primary suite.
The living room includes a custom-built lacquered bar outfitted in gorgeous green marble. The massive kitchen boasts premium appliances, along with a custom wine fridge, and Glassos countertops. A private outdoor seating area and entertaining space are accessed from the kitchen.
The primary suite sprawls over the entire second floor with a private sitting room, two huge walk-in closets and two terraces. The bathroom showcases a soaking tub under an arched greenhouse roof, while laundry facilities and a convenient powder room are discreetly located off the bedroom.
One floor up there are two more terraces and two en-suite guest bedrooms, one of them used as a study. The top floor, with a petite powder room, is almost entirely devoted to the 1,000-plus-square-foot roof terrace. A one-of-a-kind spot for epic dinner parties, the al fresco aerie boasts an outdoor bar, a fire pit, and amazing city views.
Any Pokémon Go characters found hiding in the planters nestled amid the skyline are included free of charge, of course.
