Now that the sprawling Los Angeles estate she shared with her late husband for decades has popped up on the market, Jean Currivan Trebek is making a fresh residential start. Property records reveal that the longtime wife of legendary “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek — who died from pancreatic cancer in 2020 at age 80 — has purchased a smaller three-bedroom, 3.5-bath home that’s practically right around the corner, and in the same Fryman Canyon neighborhood of Studio City where she’s long resided.
The seller was “Clockwatchers” director Jill Sphrecher, who picked up the place in 2007 for $1.8 million and held onto it for 15 years before ultimately selling to Trebek — a native New Yorker and professional Reiki healer — for $3.8 million. Originally built way back in 1959, the listing touts that the split-level structure has been “extensively updated.”
Tucked away on a little more than a quarter-acre of land, and fronted by an attached three-car garage and towering trees, Trebek’s newly acquired residence is relatively unassuming with its cream-colored stucco façade. Inside is where the magic unfolds, complete with over 3,600 square feet of mostly white and light-filled living space complemented with dark hardwood floors and soaring ceilings. Glass doors throughout open to provide seamless indoor/outdoor environs.
Among the highlights are a spacious living room resting under a vaulted wood-beam ceiling and sporting a stone fireplace, plus an updated gourmet kitchen outfitted with marble countertops, an eat-in island and high-end stainless appliances. A butler’s pantry connects to a formal hexagon-shaped dining room with French doors to the backyard, and there’s also a fireside family room. The inviting master suite features a sitting area and walk-in closet. A spa-like bath includes dual vanities, a dressing area, and soaking tub placed beneath large windows overlooking the heavily wooded yard
Elsewhere in the house is an office space that could easily be converted into a fourth bedroom, per the listing; and outdoors, the terraced backyard holds several spaces for al fresco dining and lounging, a professionally designed water creek, and small oval-shaped pool surrounded by a flagstone sun deck.
Karen Misraje and Jack Misraje of Coldwell Banker Realty were the listing agents; Trebek was repped by her real estate agent daughter, Emily Trebek, of Compass.
