This just in: A veteran Los Angeles news anchor has listed his longtime home in the celeb-studded Fryman Canyon area of the city. The Emmy-winning newsman and his wife picked up the secluded Studio City estate, nicknamed “Deerhaven,” back in 2016 for $4.2 million. Described as an “architectural rustic farmhouse” in the listing, the property rests on 2-plus acres of heavily wooded grounds dotted with trees, water features and walking paths; and the nearest neighbor is none other than old Hollywood royalty himself, George Clooney.
Built in 1988 and designed by the Culver City architect firm Hodgetts + Fung (now Mithun | Hodgetts + Fung), the gray-shingled and white-trimmed house is tucked away behind a lengthy gated driveway that traverses underneath the structure before spilling out at a spacious motorcourt flanked by a detached three-car garage (the largest bay of which currently holds a yoga studio). Once inside, six bedrooms and an equal number of baths are spread across just over 5,000 square feet of living space on two levels laden with rich hardwood floors throughout.
Standing out on the main floor is a glam living room spotlighted by a soaring, industrial-style ceiling boasting wood beams and exposed pipes, along with a fireplace and walls accented by stacked stone, and French doors that flow out onto a deck. Off to the side is a custom walk-in bar with seating and a beverage cooler, and around the corner is a sun-drenched breakfast nook next to a pale green kitchen sporting a bespoke circular island and high-end stainless appliances.
Also on the main level is a formal dining room surrounded by a curved wall of windows and topped by chandelier dangling from a wood-beamed ceiling. An additional room with clerestory windows and glass doors could, per the listing, be used as an office or a bedroom.
Upstairs, the spacious master retreat features an open-beamed ceiling similar to the one found in the downstairs living room and a built-in projector. A two-way fireplace opens on the other side to a sitting room and balcony overlooking the grounds, and there also are walk-in closets, a “hidden” office, and a marble-clad bath outfitted with dual vanities, plus a dressing area, and a soaking tub and sizable walk-in shower.
Two large secondary bedrooms connected by a Jack-and-Jill bath also can be found on the upper level. And last, but definitely not least, relaxation spots abound in the expansive and grassy backyard, where a tree-lined pool and spa is surrounded by an elevated wood sundeck.
Andrew Teshinsky of Rodeo Realty and Tara Teshinsky of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties hold the listing.
