Somewhat ironically for a person with the surname of “Walker,” Magnus Walker‘s main claim to fame is automobiles — Porsches, to be exact. The exuberantly bearded Sheffield, England native used to be a fashion designer who bought and customized Porsches on the side. But what was once a hobby eventually turned into a career. Walker’s extensive collection of rare 911s and other modified models has landed him a book contract, collaborations with Mattel and Nike, TedX talks, and appearances in videogames. He also hosts a show for Porsche’s Youtube channel called “OPP” (short for “Other People’s Porsches”), now in its third season, and some of his four-wheeled treasures were shown in a recent exhibit at the Petersen Museum.
A longtime resident of Downtown LA’s Arts District, Walker is now looking to motorvate away from his loft in the neighborhood’s Molino Building. Originally a 1920s warehouse, the Molino was converted to live-work lofts in 2006, making it one of LA’s earliest examples of adaptive reuse. Purchased in 2006 for $872,000, Walker’s unit occupies a corner on the building’s top floor and retains such original elements as 20-foot-high raw beam wood ceilings, exposed brick, factory casement and clerestory windows, and birds-eye maple floors.
The 1,850-square-foot unit contains two full bathrooms appointed with Waterworks and Philippe Starck fixtures, steam shower, and egg bathtub, plus a laundry and utility room. Building amenities include a rooftop pool, gym, and sun deck with views overlooking the 4th and 6th street bridges, as well as secure rooftop parking.
Located within shouting distance of such Arts District hotspots as Girl and the Goat, Bavel, Hauser & Wirth Gallery, and Soho House, the loft is listed with Tori Horowitz and Rinat Greenberg of Canyonhaus at Compass for an asking price of $1.25 million.
