On Amagansett’s super snooty Further Lane, this property is notably low-key, easygoing and casual, as a beach house should be, but also elegant and well put together. The palette is mostly creams and whites, which is pretty standard with high-end residences in the Hamptons, yet all the layered textures and careful design elements keep the interiors anything but boring. (Note the various collections of rocks displayed on the coffee table in the living room.) Set on 1.34 acres, the 5,200-square-foot home is available for $12.5 million via Jonathan D. Millioti at Compass.
It’s not surprising the interiors are so tasteful, considering the property belongs to Andrew Peters and Lester Gribetz; the couple paid $3.7 million for the property in 2012. While hardly a household name, Gribetz is something of a legend in the world of tabletop appointments. He is currently the president of Lenox Corp, and he worked for Bloomingdale’s for many years, starting in 1954, hunting out great housewares for the legendary retailer. Frankly, we’d expect nothing less than such dignified refinement from the Hamptons home of such a distinguished tastemaker.
What’s great about the house is that, despite having a relatively few three bedrooms and three and a half baths, there’s space for whatever anyone would want to do, including a potential expansion. With chunky wood beams across the ceiling and a lovely wood-burning fireplace set into pale stone, the living room leads directly to the great room, where there’s plenty of seating all around, including a smart little two-top table perfect for age-old beach house pastimes like board games and jigsaw puzzles.
The kitchen and adjoining lounge, a double-height space drenched in light, gleams with tranquil white marble, white cabinets and, for practicality, stainless-steel counters. For more intimate dinners, there’s a cozy dining area off the kitchen, as well as a lounge with plenty of space for casual pre-dinner aperitifs and after-dinner digestifs.
Great for those getting a bit long in the tooth, the main bedroom is on the ground floor and includes a gorgeous, envy-inducing master bath. Then there are two ensuite bedrooms, plus a spacious finished lower level — aka the basement — complete with wine storage and rec room. Outside, there’s a de rigueur in-ground gunite pool, and access to the ocean is easy and very close via Indian Wells Highway.
Further Lane is famously a longtime magnet for big business barons and entertainment industry heavy hitters. Some of the many high-profile folks who maintain deluxe spreads along the slender street include Lorne Michaels, Jerry Seinfeld, Howard Schultz, Carl Icahn and Larry Gagosian.
