When residential developer Jordan Bakva first set out to reimagine this 1930s English Tudor-style house in Los Feliz, he wanted to create a place that was radically different from many of the generally monotonous, white-washed homes that regularly hit the market throughout Los Angeles.
“While there is a place for that direction and it can sometimes be executed very well, that was not the playbook here. In fact, I didn’t want a playbook at all,” he said in a recent Q&A about his design process, vision and inspiration. “I decided to throw caution to the wind and create a space that feels as if it had slowly been renovated over time to one’s personal taste rather than over the course of a year.”
The stylish showpiece is now up for sale at $4.6 million, with Bennett Hirsch and Nick Sandler of The Agency serving as the listing agents. And, if we do say so ourselves, it’s definitely Instagram-worthy!
Nestled behind towering hedges, on a 0.17-acre parcel in the sought-after Oaks enclave of Los Feliz — where superstar musician Miguel resides just down the street — the two-story home was originally built way back in 1937. Four bedrooms and 5.5 baths can be found in nearly 4,000 square feet of vintage yet modern living space, which is adorned with marble, chevron oak floors, hand-painted Portola lime-wash walls and House of Hackney wallpaper.
Adding to the home’s originality are numerous sculptures and pottery left behind by the former owner, an antique dealer, who sold the house to Bakva in late 2020 for $2.4 million.
Highlights include a fireside living room resting beneath a wood-beam ceiling, and gourmet kitchen boasting an eat-in island and pricey La Cornue range, plus a cozy wood-paneled library with fireplace. Five bedrooms include the sumptuous primary suite, which comes complete with a luxe bath and its own private office/writing room.
The romantic grounds are encased in greenery, and hold a newly constructed oval pool, and several brick-paved al fresco dining and lounging areas. Rounding it all out: a one-bedroom, one-bath guesthouse spotlighted by a full kitchen, wood-beamed ceiling and concrete floors.
