With a sky-high asking price of $87 million, this European-inspired home is one of the five most expensive residential properties currently for sale in Los Angeles. Built back in 2004 — and never before offered for sale — the bespoke mansion is nestled on a promontory high atop Benedict Canyon, in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood. It comes complete with what listing agent Aaron Kirman of Compass calls one of the best libraries he’s ever seen, plus insane views of the entire L.A. Basin.
Though Kirman declined to discuss the seller, public records indicate the current homeowner is Igor Greenberg, an elusive and somewhat mysterious businessman. Over the years, Greenberg has leased the house out to various entertainment productions, and it’s appeared in more than 40 music videos, TV shows, films, commercials and events — hosting everyone from Shakira and Bon Jovi to Lindsay Lohan and Naomi Campbell, as well as “America’s Got Talent” and “Goliath.” Spanning nearly 8 acres, the property features a palatial main house and guest house. In total, there’s about 22,000 square feet of living space with eight bedrooms and 14 baths — all of it showcasing grand-scale rooms laden with colorfully ornate details and finishes.
A lengthy gated driveway wraps around massive retaining walls before emptying out at a motorcourt earmarked by a central fountain. Double doors open into a soaring foyer displaying an Imperial staircase adorned with a fanciful gold-leaf bannister. From there, a fireside living room has a wet bar and a formal dining room sports doors crafted from Venetian 16th-century stained-glass windows. An industrial-grade kitchen is outfitted with high-end stainless appliances and a light-filled breakfast nook.
Other highlights include a billiards room and sitting room, along with the aforementioned two-story library boasting a steel spiral staircase and 19th-century stained-glass light fixture. There’s also a sumptuous fireside master retreat equipped with multiple Juliette balconies, dual closets, a massage room and luxe bath clad in lapis stone; and four additional ensuite bedrooms also can be found on this floor, each with its own walk-in closet.
Relegated entirely toward entertaining, the lower level comes replete with a movie theater, ballroom that spills out to an expansive terrace and wine cellar crafted to resemble the storefront of an early 18th-century English saloon. Topping it all off: the picturesque grounds, which include several spots ideal for al fresco dining and entertaining, a custom pool and spa, giant chess set, koi pond, putting green and full-size tennis court.
