Footballers and other celebrities, take note!
On the south coast of England, in Dorset, the Sandbanks neighborhood in the coastal seaport town of Poole usually ranks as the most expensive place to live in the entire country. A peaceful spit of land in the second-largest natural harbor in the world (Sydney being number one), Sandbanks is known to attract some of the biggest names in football, Harry Redknapp, Graham Souness and Tony Pulis among them.
Other past and present residents, according to the neighborhood’s official visitor website, include author J.R. Tolkien, rocker Liam Gallagher, and TV presenter/interior designer Celia Sawyer. And it’s easy to see why the rich and influential like it so much: sandy beaches, views of the ocean and harbor, windsurfing, water skiing, jet skiing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, sailing, and swimming. Nearby are marinas and yacht clubs.
This newly built home, asking roughly $14.9 million USD, is one of the area’s most expensive currently on the market. The Savills listing says the place is “more than just a house; it’s a lifestyle.” Located directly on the beach, the home sports pretty views of the harbor and the sea. Built in 2019 by award-winning MRD Architecture, the four-story contemporary home features a circular glass watchtower and a roof terrace. This “is arguably one of the finest homes ever to be brought to market on the iconic Sandbanks peninsula,” said Ben Hehir of Savills, who is handling the sale with Sean Gibson, also with Savills, and Jessica Boston at Tailor Made Estate Agents.
With glass walls that maximize the ocean views from throughout the house, the open floor plan includes a double-height entrance hall, a cylindrical elevator, a games room, a home theater, a gym, and an extra sitting/media room. The kitchen, with high-end appliances, features a “secret” bar area, while a spacious terrace is well positioned to enjoy the sea breezes.
Five bedrooms include one used as an office; the primary suite takes up an entire floor with a dropdown TV, two dressing rooms, two bathrooms, a lounge with bar facilities and a wraparound terrace.
The lower ground floor is made for fun, with table tennis, a pool table, a foosball game, and a luxurious cinema. There is also a fully equipped (and air-cooled) gym with a hidden TV, a large utility room with an extra fridge/ freezer and another full-height wine fridge, a bathroom, and two integral garages offering secure parking.
“This really is an incredible house,” said Jessica Boston of Tailor Made Estate Agents. “The position means you have direct access from the terrace onto Sandbanks Beach, and there are gorgeous views of the water from almost every room.”
