Atop a boutique six-floor co-op in the heart of Soho, this duplex has been fully renovated in a sophisticated modern style. Most striking perhaps, and not included with the sale, are the 40-plus pieces of art, which adorn every wall of every room, including the kitchen.
Visitors arrive directly via a key-locked elevator that opens on both floors of the 3,500-square-foot penthouse that encompasses building’s entire fifth and six floors; there is also a private 800-square-foot rooftop terrace, with fabulous views. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom duplex penthouse is listed for $8.75 million by Frances Katzen with Douglas Elliman. Maintenance charges tally up to $4,400 but they’re largely offset by the almost $3,600 the apartment receives every month from the commercial tenant on the ground floor.
The only way an almost completely black-and-white palette works is if there is plenty of light. Fortunately, the almost 60-foot-long corner great room, done up in a strict palette of black and white, includes nine deep-set windows. Even more natural light is provided by four skylights.
There are two corkscrew staircases in the great room: one to the bedrooms downstairs, and another that winds up to the roof terrace. For the kitchen, designer Jeffrey Goodman, who owns the flat, chose custom Italian cabinetry, Miele appliances, a full height Gaggenau wine refrigeration system and a French exotic marble island. A secluded office and shower room finish the sixth floor.
Below is the master suite, complete with seating area, fireplace, closet-lined dressing area, and marble bathroom with steam shower. Two other bedrooms, a bathroom, a laundry room and a media room complete the fifth floor.
With its masterful finishes and fixtures, it’s easy to see why Goodman has worked with A-list clients like Madonna, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Paula Abdul and Ringo Starr, while the bright, sunny rooms, private terrace and unusually low maintenance charges make the penthouse a rare find indeed.
