Groovy Party House by A. Quincy Jones Still Seeking Buyer, Now at Lower Price

More than two years after it first hit the market with an ambitious $12.5 million price tag, this eye-catching residence in the Linda Vista neighborhood of Pasadena has popped up for sale again, this time with freshly staged interiors, some design upgrades, updated listing photos, a new agent and substantially reduced $6.8 million ask.

Built in 1973 and designed by noted architect A. Quincy Jones, the place was specifically used by its philanthropist homeowners Adelaide and Alexander Hixon to host fundraising events and parties. Before her death in 2019 at age 101, Adelaide — an heiress to an Iowa lumber fortune — bequeathed the couple’s longtime home next door and this building on the same four-lot compound to Harvey Mudd College, where she had previously helped found the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment in her husband’s memory.

Though the main house — designed in the ’50s by architect Thornton Ladd — sold awhile back for nearly $3 million, with proceeds going to the Claremont-based institution, the adjacent home crafted by Jones is still available.
