
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater is known throughout the world as a landmark in domestic architecture. There’s just one problem, at least with those who favor the “modern farmhouse” trend in home design: It’s so dated! There’s not a strip of shiplap anywhere, no barn doors sliding open to powder rooms, no cutesy signs over the washing machine that remind the housekeeper to “Live, Laugh, Love.”
While the modern farmhouse style remains popular with developers and well-to-do homebuyers — Vanessa Hudgens, Adriana Lima, Max Muncy, and Russell Westbrook all bought super-luxe multimillion-dollar versions of a modern farmhouse this year — most architecture and interior design aficionados have grown a bit (and even a lot) weary of the nowadays ubiquitous cross-country trend.
