Now that she’s successfully offloaded her 1920s Spanish villa in the Hollywood Hills, Frances Bean Cobain is free to move on to the sunnier shores of San Diego. Per property records, the visual artist and sometimes model daughter of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love has splashed out $2.3 million for a snazzy little number in the coastal neighborhood of Point Loma. She won the place in an apparent bidding war, paying about $300,000 over the most recent asking price.
Built in 1990, but since fully modernized with an open-concept floorplan, Cobain’s newly acquired cottage rests on less than a quarter-acre of land tucked securely away from the street behind a fence and gates. Once inside, three bedrooms and two bathrooms are packed into just over 1,800 square feet of single-level living space punctuated throughout with rich hardwood floors, plantation shutters, skylights and exposed wood-beam ceilings. Floor-to-ceiling LaCantina-style glass doors also disappear completely to provide the quintessential SoCal indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
Highlights include a spacious great room boasting a sunken seating nook that can be closed off with curtains, plus a fireside family room that has doors spilling out to an expansive wood deck topped by a custom steel and aluminum pergola. An adjacent dining area is right around the corner from an updated kitchen, which is outfitted with stainless appliances, a center island and colorful ceramic backsplash.
Situated in its own private wing, the master suite has French doors opening to the grounds, a walk-in closet, and spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities and a glass-encased shower. Elsewhere in the house are two additional guest bedrooms; and outdoors, the turf-clad backyard is laced with palm trees and holds a lap pool, tiled fire-pit area with built-in seating and whimsical playhouse. There’s also a detached two-car garage off the rear alley and an attached one-car garage out front.
Mike McCurdy of Compass served as the listing agent; Cobain was repped by Cindy Dunbar Peters of Real Estate 365.
