Frances Bean Cobain Flips Vintage Hollywood Hills Home at Small Profit

Frances Bean Cobain, 29-year-old visual artist and occasional model daughter of Hole frontwoman Courtney Love and lionized late Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, has left the building.

It was not even two years ago that the grunge rock heiress shelled out $1.996 million for a quirky circa 1926 hillside Spanish home in a secluded Hollywood Hills neighborhood known as the Hollywood Knolls.

Since then, she’s hooked up romantically with professional skateboarder Riley Hawk, also the scion of a legend in his field — he’s the eldest child of skateboarding legend Tony “Birdman” Hawk, and decided she no longer wanted the Hollywood Hills home she’d recently purchased; First listed last year at just under $2.5 million, the circa 1926 home has been sold at a small profit, for $2.29 million.

Set on almost a third of an acre, cleared of personal belongings and staged for the selling process, the not quite 3,000-square-foot multi-level home sits a long, glute-firming hike up the wooded hillside from the street-level two-car garage. The main residence has three bedrooms and two and a half baths, while a unique, tri-level attached guesthouse with private entrance offers another bedroom and bathroom, an airy living room, a complete kitchen, and secluded private patio.

Though the ratty tiles on the floor of the guesthouse’s kitchen were replaced with minty-blue hexagonal tiles, it appears Cobain made few cosmetic changes to the interior spaces, which feature cottony-white walls, arched doorways and, in the living room, a fireplace and chunky and dark rough-hewn wood beams across the ceiling. A patio off the living room provides a lovely, over-the-treetops view.

With black cabinetry and trendy brass fixtures, the open-concept kitchen is open at either end to a dining space. Mullioned casement windows provide leafy views from one of the dining areas, while the other, flooded with light thanks to a couple of skylights, spills out French doors to a flat, grassy yard with more serene views.

The listing was held by Laura Kay at Compass; the buyer was represented in the deal by Todd Henricks, also with Compass.

Cobain, who controls the publicity rights to her father’s name and image and, during her 2017 divorce from musician Isaiah Silver, was reported to earn more than $100,000 per month, mostly comprised of royalties related to her father’s estate, previously owned another vintage Spanish-style home in the foothills just above Hollywood for which she paid $1.825 million in 2011, the year after she inherited part of her father’s estate, and sold in 2018 for $2.331 million.
