After barely two years of ownership, Damien Sabella — principal heir to a Hong Kong real estate empire worth billions — has decided to part ways with his blufftop compound in Malibu’s exclusive Point Dume enclave. Sabella and wife Brandee — referred to as “the unofficial first couple of Southern California psychedelia” in a 2021 Los Angeles Magazine article —are asking just over $17.6 million for the deliciously photogenic spread, which they originally acquired for $9.3 million.
Built in the 1950s, the Spanish-style property was extensively renovated and expanded by local architect Doug Burdge in 2011 for The Wallflowers lead singer Jakob Dylan and his wife Paige, and has again been recently reimagined by local real estate agent/designer Lady Michael McCraine. Included is a split-level main house and detached guesthouse, plus a tennis casita that currently serves as a massage studio and gym — for a total of eight bedrooms and eight baths in almost 7,700 square feet of living space, all of it offering sweeping ocean views.
Resting on a flat parcel of land spanning over an acre, the creamy stucco and red terracotta-roof primary structure is secluded behind gates and a lengthy tree-lined driveway, and fronted by an attached two-car garage tucked off to the side. Once inside, a striking entry foyer flows to a formal living room boasting a floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace and a wall of French doors spilling out to the backyard, which hosts a pool and spa, fire-pit lounge area and tennis court.
In addition to a chandelier-topped dining room, other highlights include a gourmet kitchen that comes complete with an eat-in island, pricey La Cornue range, Calacatta Turquoise marble culled from Italy’s Breccia Capraia quarry and an accompanying breakfast nook.
All of the bedrooms are secluded in a two-story “sleeping wing,” including an upstairs master retreat featuring a private balcony, dual walk-in closets, and a luxe sky-lit bath spotlighted by dual vanities and a soaking tub; and elsewhere in the house is a loft-style office space. The property also comes with a coveted private beach easement.
Lady Michael McCraine of Compass holds the listing. For interested parties, there’s an open house this weekend.
