Christopher Meyer is only 27 years old, but he’s also a key member of one of America’s wealthiest families. Raised in California’s Rancho Santa Fe neighborhood, Meyer is the elder child and only son of Gwendolyn Sontheim Meyer, a multibillionaire heiress and the great-granddaughter of W. W. Cargill, late patriarch of the fourth-richest U.S. clan.
Thus, it’s no surprise Meyer can afford some very nice things. Records indicate he was the buyer who last year forked out $6.5 million for an impressive home in L.A.’s celebrity-favored Outpost Estates neighborhood. Once listed at $10 million and sited atop a nearly 1-acre hilltop promontory, the property is blessed with what the listing described as “iconic panoramic views from the Hollywood Sign to the Pacific Ocean.”
The house is pretty swell, too. Originally built in 1951 but heavily remodeled several times in decades since, the boxy contemporary structure includes nearly 4,000 square feet of living space with four bedrooms, 4.5 baths and spacious reception rooms, all of them clean-lined and light-filled. But the views are clearly the star of this real estate show, capturing and bathing in the entire L.A. skyline and beyond.
A long driveway wraps itself around a steep hill on its way to a spacious motorcourt. Featuring a three-car attached garage, the house itself is tucked well out of view from the street far below. Amenities include a temperature-controlled wine display area, fireplace-equipped living room, formal dining room and an all-new kitchen with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances. Walls of glass spill out to multiple terraces and covered patios, and the east-facing swimming pool overlooks the downtown skyline.
Meyer’s mother is an accomplished equestrian who spends most of her time training horses at her vast Rancho Santa Fe farm, per Forbes. She’s just one of 14 billionaire members of the extended Cargill-MacMillan family, making it the family with the most billionaire members of all time. The clan still owns roughly 90% of Cargill Inc., the agribusiness giant that is one of America’s largest private corporations.
