Looks like the “King of the Megamansion” has a new castle — and a new project! After selling the contemporary Brentwood house he personally designed, decorated, landscaped and lived in with husband Chris Drugan, Los Angeles architect Richard Landry has now turned his sights toward a much more traditional spread in suburban La Cañada Flintridge.
Records show Landry — well-known for designing over-the-top homes owned by celebs like Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone and Kourtney Kardashian, just to name a few — doled out $10 million for the estate, which last sold for $5 million way back in September 2000.
Built in the mid-1990s and since upgraded, there’s no doubt the famed architect is keen to put his own flashily luxe spin on this project. In its current iteration, the wood-sided and shingle-roof structure features six bedrooms and nine baths in almost 11,000 square feet of living space, all tucked away behind gates on an acre-plus parcel of land fronted by an attached four-car garage and spacious motorcourt.
Inside, a double-height foyer flows to a formal living room with fireplace and chandeliered dining room boasting French doors leading out to a covered patio with a built-in barbecue. From there, the fireside library connects to an office with built-in cabinetry and dual-sided desks, and a family room sporting a fireplace adjoins a kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, a walk-in pantry and breakfast nook.
Elsewhere on the main level is an expansive master retreat displaying a sitting area, two-way fireplace, private patio, dual closets and a fully furnished bath, along with an ensuite guest bedroom; and three separate staircases lead upstairs to four additional ensuite bedrooms. A “collectibles” room with display cabinets, crafts room and media/game room can also be found on this floor.
Outdoors, the professionally landscaped grounds are laced with rose gardens and mature trees, and host a large PebbleTec saltwater pool and spa nestled alongside a poolhouse with an open-air cabana. There’s also a sports court set up for pickleball and basketball, as well as several areas ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining.
