A decade ago, while he was still a student at Stanford University, Andy Fang co-founded DoorDash. Not only has the app gone on to revolutionize the food-delivery market, but it also has ranked in oodles of dough for the company’s creators. While the tech entrepreneur dropped off the Forbes’ Billionaires list this year largely due to declining stock prices, he can still order up whatever his heart desires from the confines of this classy San Francisco mansion.
Property records reveal Fang purchased the place for $19.5 million about two years ago, though the transaction was never reported. Originally built in 1920 but extensively renovated in 2006 by architect William B. Remick in collaboration with interior design firm The Wiseman Group, the Second Empire-style structure features five bedrooms and eight baths spread across a little more than 8,700 square feet of five-level living space boasting bleached walnut floors throughout, plus sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz beyond.
Nestled within the affluent Pacific Heights neighborhood, on a gated parcel spanning less than a quarter-acre of land, the spread is decked out with glitzy amenities like a gym sporting a sauna and steam room, movie theater with Dolby surround sound, wet bar-equipped wine room and billiards room spotlighted by a curved bronze accent wall. There’s also a steel-floor garage with a motorized turntable that has enough room for up to seven vehicles.
Standing out on the main level is an expansive entry hall bathed in chiseled limestone and displaying a curving bronze-railed staircase, along with a fireside living room that has doors spilling out to an expansive terrace, formal dining room with fireplace and maple-paneled library resting beneath a domed Venetian-plaster ceiling. A gourmet kitchen is outfitted with a central island, high-end stainless appliances, a dumbwaiter, breakfast nook and butler’s pantry that flows out to a terrace with a built-in barbecue.
Other highlights include a posh master retreat adorned with a fireplace, sitting area, dual walk-in closets, and a spa-inspired bath hosting dual vanities, another fireplace, a soaking tub and shower. Adding to the home’s luxe appeal is a windowed office space, and top-floor “pent room” brandishing a two-way fireplace, wet bar and yet more of those amazing views. Rounding it all out are the garden-laced grounds.
