Less than three years ago — not long after their highly successful nutrition-based food company sold to the maker of Atkins bars for a cool $1 billion — married Quest Nutrition cofounders Tom and Lisa Bilyeu plunked down $35.5 million for an ultra-contemporary showpiece in the Hollywood Hills, high above the Sunset Strip. Now that place has popped up for sale with a $40 million ask, as first reported by the Los Angeles Times
The Bilyeus — currently co-owners of Impact Theory, a globally popular empowerment interview show — are seeking around $4 million more than they paid for the place back in December 2019. Designed and built that same year by South Africa-based architecture firm Saota, for property developer Jeff Thomas, and liberally featured on Netflix’s “Selling Sunset,” the extravagant steel and stone structure is one of the most spacious residences in the area, with 20,000-plus square feet of living space on three levels.
Tucked away on a gated hillside parcel spanning over a half-acre, the home has a total of five bedrooms and eight baths. Spiffy amenities include a glass-encased elevator, temperature-controlled wine cellar, movie theater, rooftop deck with fire-pit and 175-foot wraparound infinity pool flanked by a 15-foot TV that rises from the ground. Automated glass sliding doors throughout provide sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains, Downtown L.A. skyline, ocean and Catalina Island.
The experience unfolds on the lower level, where a grand entry foyer accented by a water feature leads to a limestone-clad auto gallery boasting space for up to 12 vehicles, along with a decked-out wellness center sporting an indoor-outdoor gym, hot and cold plunge pools, a massage room, sauna and steam shower.
Other highlights include a 12-seat dining room that’s separated from a formal living room by a custom linear fireplace, as well as a gourmet kitchen outfitted with top-tier appliances and separate catering kitchen. There’s also a sprawling master retreat displaying a private terrace, designer showroom closet, and luxe bath equipped with a custom sunken tub and double shower.
For now, the Bilyeus also still own another huge mansion in the mountains above Beverly Hills, overlooking fabled Mulholland Drive.
