While he’s not a household name in the vein of Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Pink, Khalid or Doja Cat, Peter Edge heads up the music label that houses all those artists and more, a powerful and hard-earned gig that came as the product of decades in the industry. English-born Edge began working as a DJ in the early ’80s before switching to music producing; in 2007, he was named President of A&R at what is today RCA Records. When Sony became RCA’s parent company in 2011, Edge was promoted to CEO, a position he’s now held for a full decade.
With great responsibility comes greater remuneration, and Edge has the bank account wattage to buy a $13.8 million home in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades, in the highly coveted Riviera section of town. Some of his new neighbors include Steven Spielberg, Bill Cosby, Adam Sandler and Sugar Ray Leonard. And the 59-year-old’s new digs are only two doors away from the $16.1 million mansion of Clippers star Paul George.
Built way back in 1928 and last sold in ’86 for just $1.2 million, the roughly 6,800-square-foot, Spanish Colonial Revival-style house is described in the listing as “an early-California hacienda” and “one of John Byers‘ greatest works.” (Byers, a lifelong fan of adobe-style buildings, built more than 200 structures in the area and is often considered Santa Monica’s most important architect working in the period between WWI and WWII.)
Today, the nearly century-old house still retains much of its original charm. There are whitewashed stucco walls inside and out, colorful native plantings in the yard, and an unexpectedly massive formal courtyard that’s lush with drought-resistant succulents. From the street, the walled and gated property opens to the sunken courtyard and the home’s front door beyond; inside, there are dual living rooms, each with French doors opening to various parts of the yard.
Other nifty amenities include hand-stenciled ceiling beams, a private office, multiple flagstone patios, and a backyard lap pool adjoining the labyrinth-style gardens. Upstairs, the oversized master suite include dual closets, a sitting room, bathroom, and a balcony with views over the gardens, to the ocean far beyond.
