Last year, Kristine Wellenstein stopped into a Chevron gas station in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Woodland Hills, where she bought a Mega Millions lottery ticket. That offhand move proved to be one of the most fruitful decisions of her life — the ticket was worth some $426 million, immediately making her one of the richest lottery winners of all time.
A longtime San Fernando Valley resident who also previously lived in Iowa and Nebraska, Wellenstein has now upgraded to the swanky hills of Bel Air, where records show she’s paid nearly $6 million for a newly revamped house. Freshly reimagined by Casa Design, the roughly 4,000-square-foot residence flaunts premium materials, including marble and limestone throughout, Kelly Wearstler lighting fixtures, oak floors and state-of-the-art security and smart home systems. Wellenstein scored a bit of a discount on the place, which had originally been listed for some $6.2 million.
The 52-year-old’s new home also flaunts a metal roof, custom cabinetry and a kitchen with Thermador appliances and a strikingly Dalmatian-esque black-and-white marble imported from Italy. There are also five bedrooms, one on the main floor and four upstairs. The second-floor master suite includes a dedicated sitting area, a marble shower with a rainfall showerhead and dual sinks, big views of the surrounding hills and a walk-in closet.
Out back, the 0.38-acre lot includes some 1,500 square feet of patio decking, plus a swimmer’s pool hugged by an AstroTurf lawn, while the attached two-car garage is pre-wired for an electric car charging system. The westward-facing house is additionally blessed with unobstructed sunset vistas, all of them framed by the gently rolling Bel Air hills.
