Kim Kardashian Spends Big to Expand Hidden Hills Footprint

Kim Kardashian has added to her already substantial holdings in Hidden Hills, Calif., shelling out $6.3 million for a fixer-upper property next door to the bespoke estate she once shared with her now ex-husband Kanye West.

Both envied and disdained for her conspicuous consumption, the billionaire reality TV queen and social media powerhouse turned shapewear entrepreneur and future attorney can certainly afford to buy whatever she wants whenever she wants it. And she clearly wanted the down-on-its-heels one-acre spread next door with some serious gusto because she ponied up a staggering $800,000 more than the $5.5 million asking price. The listing was held by Erica Fields at Compass; Kardashian was represented in the deal by Raul Cañada at Keller Williams.

Built in 1975, with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in about 4,200 square feet, the existing house is no great shakes, wearing its age with nary a nip or tuck. Interior spaces reflect an ersatz sort of opulence and include a curved staircase and second-floor gallery lined with a faux-gilded wrought-iron banister. There are formal living and dining rooms, the former with entire wall sheathed in mirrors that reflect the seller’s funky aubergine microsuede sofas, white baby grand piano and giraffe statues, as well as a family room with fireplace, wet bar, and sliding glass doors to a patio that overlooks the expansive but only cursorily maintained backyard.

It’s unclear what Kardashian has planned for the property. Housing for staff? A wellness retreat? A quiet library to study the law? Climate-controlled storage for all her designer handbags and shoes? Whatever the plan, it won’t be easy or maybe even possible to fully merge the property into the main part of her big spread as there’s a community bridle path that runs between the two properties.

Though they each own two adjacent and nearby properties through their respective trusts, which all together total almost 8.5 acres, tax records indicate Kardashian bought out West’s interest in the main part of the still-growing compound last year to the tune of $20 million, plus another $3 million for contents of the sprawling mansion. While Kardashian grows her footprint in Hidden Hills, West is looking to sell most if not all of his holdings in Wyoming, and last year paid $57.3 million for a Tadao Ando-designed home in Malibu.

Known in some circles as Kardashian-Land, horsey, guard-gated Hidden Hills is famously home to several members of the lavish-living Jenner-Kardashian-West clan besides Kim and Kanye. Momager Kris Jenner owns two big spreads, one next door to daughter Khloé and another where she raised her family with ex-husband Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner. The latter home was at one point occupied by son Rob Kardashian, who previously rented another since sold Hidden Hills home from his younger half-sister Kylie Jenner. And, though she has a super-luxe mansion in Holmby Hills, Kylie continues to own another Hidden Hills estate she picked up in 2016 for $12 million, as well as a five-acre vacant parcel just half a mile away that she picked up about two years ago for $15 million.

The Beverly Hills of L.A.’s affluent far-western suburbs, the ritzy enclave is also home to L.A. Rams Coach Sean McVay, as well as L.A. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who just bought two of Drake’s three estates, Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union, Lil Wayne, Sylvester Stallone, and though she’s got the place she bought only a year ago from The Weeknd back up for sale, Madonna.
