For several years now, Juliana Terian has been trying to unload her Southern California vacation home with no takers. Sited in Malibu, the 1970s estate was once offered for as much as $42.5 million and previously listed for rent at $100,000 per month, but has now returned to the open market with an asking price that’s just a speck under $37 million.
If the president and CEO of Rallye Motor Co., a mega-million-dollar Long Island car dealership juggernaut she inherited when her husband died in 2002, does get anywhere near the ask, it will still rank as a substantial profit. Records show Terian, also a licensed architect, paid $18 million for the place a little over a decade ago, back in fall 2012.
Nestled amid a quarter-acre-plus parcel of land on a particularly sought-after stretch of beach — where well-to-do neighbors include billionaire brothers Alec and Tom Gores, former Clippers owner Donald Sterling, philanthropist Erika Glazer and wealthy Greek-British businessman Alki David — the two-story structure features five bedrooms and six baths in 4,500 square feet of open-concept living space boasting large expanses of glass providing sweeping ocean views.
Visitors are greeted by a brick pathway topped by a lengthy sky-lit portico, which passes by a guesthouse and garden courtyard before emptying out at the front door. From there, a double-height foyer displaying a wet bar tucked beneath the staircase steps up to a spacious great room anchored by a living room sporting a fireplace, built-in cabinetry and glassy doors opening to an expansive beach-side deck. A dining area and sitting area connect to the wood-paneled kitchen, which is outfitted with a breakfast bar.
Three bedrooms can be found upstairs, including a glass-lined master retreat resting beneath a high plank-and-beam wood ceiling, and adorned with a fireplace, private balcony, custom walk-in closet and separate office, as well as a luxe bath sporting dual vanities and a large shower. Elsewhere is a detached media suite; and outdoors, the grounds are spotlighted by the aforementioned deck, which hosts a hot tub and fire-pit. There’s also a detached three-car garage out front.
In addition to her Malibu house, Terian also maintains a $13 million apartment at the swanky 1120 Fifth Avenue building on New York City’s Upper East Side.
