While they’re still trying to sell a contemporary Sunset Strip house that previously belonged to Kendall Jenner — and though they already own an enormous estate in Beverly Hills, plus a veritable plethora of other homes — marketing guru Bill Guthy and his wife Victoria Jackson have decided to shell out a total of $22.8 million on not one but two stylish estates, one in the upscale Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood and the other in equally upscale Malibu.
He’s not exactly a household name, but Guthy is the co-founder of Guthy-Renker, which has entered most every American’s home at some point, in some manner. Formed in 1988, the billion-dollar infomercial/e-commerce powerhouse initially sold self-help materials — an audiotape series based on Napoleon Hill’s self-improvement book “Think and Grow Rich,” for example — but today focuses mostly on promoting celebrity-endorsed home goods and other products sold by everyone from Vanessa Williams to Adam Levine, to Justin Bieber and Cindy Crawford. The company specializes in both daytime and late-night ads and are a TV staple.
Jackson, meanwhile, is a former Hollywood makeup artist who went on to found an eponymously named cosmetics brand. An infomercial pioneer, Jackson was the first person to market a cosmetics line on TV with 11 international infomercials. With a 10-year run on QVC, the brand became an international sales powerhouse, with 600-plus beauty products that generated a billion dollars in sales.
As for the real estate, the couple first doled out $7.4 million for a midcentury modern in Brentwood with four bedrooms and four bathrooms in almost 4,000 square feet of living space. Private and gated, the estate is nestled on 21,600-plus square feet of park-like grounds laced with terraced gardens, fruit trees and patios off nearly every room in the house.
