Sometimes you just need a little more room, even when your plush Beverly Hills estate already chalks up to nearly three acres with a “Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired mansion” done up by recently deceased French decorator François Catroux — a favorite of among the world’s über-rich — and includes a vast stretch of lawn where for decades scads of stars and moguls have gathered annually for a pre-Oscar picnic. Just ask billionaire media mogul Barry Diller and ever-chic fashion icon Diane Von Fürstenburg, because they’ve just shelled out $4.3 million to acquire a neighboring home to their enviably secluded compound that’s hidden in a leafy glade in the lower Coldwater Canyon area.
The newly acquired home, just down the street from the palatial gates of billionaire Jeff Greene’s 50,000-square-foot white elephant known as Palazzo di Amore, will add about one-third an acre to the unconventional couple’s spread, the bulk of which Diller has owned since the late 1970s. Diller, Chairman at IAC/InterActiveCorp and Expedia Group, scooped up a second parcel in the mid-1980s for what is by today’s 90210 standards a bargain basement price of $850,000, while a third undeveloped parcel of about one-third of an acre is technically owned by Von Fürstenberg’s noble-born son, Prince Alex von Fürstenberg, who took possession in 2009.
A deep dive into tax records shows the newly purchased property was sold by veteran Platinum Triangle real estate agent Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty, who — it should surprise no one — also served as the listing agent for the property. A few quick clicks on a trusty abacus indicates Mills turned a tidy profit on the fully remodeled home she scooped up not quite 2.5 years ago for $2.8 million from a trust linked to Hard Rock Café co-founder Peter Morton.
