An heir to one of Indonesia’s wealthiest families has bought a Mark Rios-designed spec mansion in Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates enclave. The sellers were a group of investors who paid $7.9 million for the property back in 2016, then listed it last year for an eye-popping $39 million. The price dropped to a more palatable $32.5 million before it ultimately sold to Adhika “Aga” Bakrie for a discounted but still hefty $28 million.
The Indonesian-born son of millionaire businessman Nirwan Bakrie, 36-year-old Bakrie serves as president director of BUMI, the holding company that oversees the mining subsidiary of the Bakrie Group. One of the largest business conglomerates in Indonesia, the group has 10 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, in areas ranging from media and telecommunications to property development. Adhika’s also related to Ardi Bakrie, the son of politician and media tycoon Aburizal Bakrie, and his actress/socialite wife Nia Ramadhani.
Built in 2020, and Rios’ first-ever spec project, Bakrie’s new midcentury modern-inspired compound rests on almost a half-acre parcel secured behind gates and a 13-foot architectural wall. Six bedrooms and 11 baths are spread across nearly 12,500 square feet of glamorous Dusenbury Design-crafted living space rife with exotic stone, wood, marble and glass. Narrow skylights span the length of the living spaces for an abundance of natural light, while massive motorized pocketing glass doors blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces, and also offer panoramic views of the Los Angeles basin.
The glass-clad mansion greets with a courtyard, which opens into a double-height entry where a 15-foot waterfall spills into a reflecting pool below. Once inside, main-level highlights include a chic great room spotlighted by a tri-sided “floating” fireplace accented by Saint Laurent marble. A family room abuts the gourmet kitchen, the latter outfitted with Miele appliances, Italian cabinetry, a breakfast nook and butler’s pantry.
A 1,600-square-foot master wing holds a sumptuous office, view terrace, dual closets/dressing rooms and a marble bath with an oval soaking tub. Three additional bedroom suites can also be found on this level; and a striking staircase leads to a lower-level highlighted by a blue-velvet entertainment lounge with a marble bar, screening room and an 825-bottle wine cellar. Other chic amenities include an elevator, a Savant home automation system, mirrored gym, beauty salon, massage room, steam shower and staff quarters.
Topping it all off with a touch of flair are the lush grounds, which host an al fresco dining patio and a firepit lounge with bar, plus an infinity-edged pool and spa flanked by a sundeck. There’s also a 2,100-square-foot subterranean garage with room for five vehicles. Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates and Linda May of Hilton & Hyland were the listing agents; Brendan Fitzpatrick of Douglas Elliman repped the buyer.
