Image Credit: Lindsay Blake Though Elise was (spoiler alert!) killed by the Bride in Black at the end of the first “Insidious” movie, her home appears several times in “Chapter 2” as her former cohorts, Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), try to piece together the events leading up to her death.

Image Credit: Lindsay Blake In discussing the nature of horror film locations, Blum told CinemaBlend, “I do think it’s a very, very important choice in scary movies, where they take place. Whether it’s spooky-looking or very normal looking, obviously the ‘Paranormal’ [another Blumhouse series] houses are very mundane. But I think that’s important, too. ” With Elise’s residence, the production team went for both aesthetics, finding a property that was somehow both ordinary and off-putting at the same time.

Image Credit: Realtor.com The actual interior of the Craftsman was utilized in the film. In fact, the movie, shot over 26 days in early 2013, was lensed almost entirely at practical locations. (A few sets were built for flashback scenes.) Blum explains, “It’s better for the actors; it makes it feel more real. I think the restraints that shooting practically puts on production makes the movie better, even though it makes it harder to shoot.”

Image Credit: Lindsay Blake The “Insidious” team returned to the Craftsman for the filming of the series’ third installment, 2015’s “Insidious: Chapter 3.” Set in 2007, the movie is a prequel to the first two films and finds Elise stepping back from her paranormal studies following the death of her husband. (And yes, the flash running through the photograph above has not been lost on me.)
