Last October, the Los Angeles home of James Corden and his wife Julia Carey first became available to qualified buyers. Local realtors said the “Carpool Karaoke” king’s nearly half-acre property would be sold as a private pocket listing, without hitting the public market.
But that was then. Three months later, the deluxe Brentwood Park estate has officially listed for sale with a $22 million price tag, more than double the nearly $10 million Corden paid for the place back in 2017. In the six years since, the 1990s-built, architecturally reserved house has been given a lavish overhaul as befitting a famous TV presenter with a reported $70 million net worth.
No part of the residence is visible from the street, as the entire estate is cloaked behind gates and a massively overgrown hedge. Beyond those fortifications, a long driveway curves past a tree-shaded front lawn on its way up to the house. There’s a three-car attached garage topped by a basketball hoop for convenient practice sessions.
Described as a New England transitional in style, the mansion packs seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms into more than 8,000 square feet of living space. Glittery living spaces feature hardwood floors throughout and include a fireplace-equipped living room with ample firewood storage, a breakfast nook, formal dining room and an open kitchen with aqua blue cabinets, marble countertops and Wolf appliances.
The home’s movie theater easily seats 20 and is draped in a decadent shade of midnight blue; also on tap are a library and family room, the latter with French doors opening to the estate gardens. The upstairs master suite features a bedroom with sitting area and marble fireplace, plus a separate lounge and private balcony overlooking the backyard. Unusually, the dual master baths both offer hardwood floors and are kitted out with numerous custom amenities, include balcony access of their own.
Out back, the superbly private backyard is a kid’s paradise, as it comes with a built-in playset, in-ground trampoline and dual lawns — one with real grass, one hewn from AstroTurf. Brick terraces and covered loggias are wrapped in lush jasmine plantings, and stairs lead down to a sparkling pool with an inset spa and Baja shelf. Naturally, the property is also outfitted with a state-of-the-art security system and Crestron home automation.
“Million Dollar Listing” stars James Harris and David Parnes of Bond Collective at The Agency hold the listing.
Corden, 44, is reportedly moving back to his native U.K. following the finale of “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” which is set to end this spring.
