Eric Idle’s Spanish-Style Villa in the Hills Sells to British Heiress

Barely a month after his longtime Los Angeles residence popped up for sale, Eric Idle has already handed to the keys to his Spanish Revival-style villa in the Hollywood Hills to a new owner.

Records indicate the buyer is fellow Brit and London-based gallery owner India Rose James — an heiress to her late grandfather Paul Raymond’s multimillion-dollar porn and property empire — who doled out $6.5 million for the place, or nearly $5 million more than the legendary Monty Python star and his wife Tania paid musician Mike Oldfield for the property some 18 years ago, back in April 1995.

Built way back in 1930 — and also occupied through the years by singer/songwriter Bobbie Gentry and “Barney Miller” co-creator Ted Flicker — the striking blush-hued stucco and terracotta-roof structure is securely hidden away behind gates and dense shrubbery, and rests on almost three-quarters of an acre laced with landscaped gardens and meandering pathways.

Inside, a little more than 7,000 square feet of updated living space on three levels is highlighted by formal living and dining rooms, numerous offices, a wine cellar and den/screening room. The galley-style kitchen has a breakfast nook sporting a built-in banquette, while a spacious master retreat is outfitted with a fireplace, kitchenette, walk-in closet and spa-inspired bath.

Outdoors, the picturesque grounds host a pool and spa, along with a brick-clad courtyard bolstered by a tiled fountain and koi pond, bocce court, and plenty of spots for al fresco lounging and entertaining. There’s also an accessory dwelling that’s ideally suited for an artist studio, workroom or an office space.
