Though it’s not known if she ever gave one of her signature Tarzan yells from one of the balconies, comedic genius Carol Burnett, whose ground-breaking and still-hilarious variety program (“The Carol Burnett Show”) ran from 1967 to 1978, has sold her longtime Los Angeles pied-à-terre. The $3.7 million sale price, a tech below its $3.95 million ask, is nearly three times the not quite $1.3 million the famously flame-haired TV and comedy treasure paid back in 2002.
On the 13th floor of The Wilshire, a 27-story luxury Art Deco-inspired high-rise, the roughly 2,800-square-foot mountain-view aerie was extensively remodeled in 2011. Monthly homeowner fees tally up to $4,143 per month.
A controlled access elevator, private landing and a steel entry door add to the sense of security and privacy within the condo. Comfortable but tailored custom furnishing and massive windows that frame open views of the Santa Monica Mountains are highlighted in the great room, while the kitchen is up-to-date with stone counters and an expensive array of designer appliances that include an ice maker, wine chiller and warming drawer.
There are two ample bedrooms and two and half bathrooms plus a dedicated home office with custom built-ins. Outfitted for a star (or just someone who wants to live like one), the primary suite features floor-to-ceiling windows, two custom-fitted walk-in closets and a bathroom complete with a hair and make-up station that can be lit up like a movie set.
Standout decorative features include ledger stone walls in several rooms, solid-wood interior doors, fumed walnut floorboards, designer fittings and lighting, and silk-blend carpeting. High-tech creature comforts include three-zone heating and cooling and remote-controlled mesh shades controlled by a home automation system. The unit also transferred with secured parking for three cars and a Tesla car charging station.
Residents of the building’s 97 units are treated to five-star creature comforts that include 24-hour concierge and valet parking, a door attendant and staffed lobby, a fitness center and swimming pool and for resident oenophiles, individual 36-bottle wine storage lockers.
The listing was held by Graham J. Larson of Sotheby’s International Realty; the buyer was repped by Barbara Stover of AKG Real Estate.
Along with her six Emmys (and 15 additional nominations), among Burnett’s laundry list of well-deserved professional accolades include a Tony, a Grammy, two Peabody Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, and seven Golden Globes, including one given as the first recipient of the Carol Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award.
Now 90, the legendary comedienne, who popped up last year in a handful of episodes of the sixth and final season of “Better Call Saul,” has long made her primary home in Montecito, where she and her husband Brian Miller reside in a comfortably sized home acquired about dozen years ago for $2.85 million.
