Over the summer, though it wasn’t officially on the market at the time, a Los Angeles home was sold for $3.4 million to Usher Raymond IV, the Atlanta-raised music superstar better known to fans simply as Usher. Per property records, the “OMG” and “Yeah!” crooner now holds the deed to a quirkily charming midcentury residence in the Hollywood Hills.
The sellers were London-born model/actress sisters Cara and Poppy Delevingne, who jointly bought the 1950s property in 2017 for a speck over $2 million from Oscar-winning actor and musician Jared Leto, and subsequently renovated the premises.
Tucked away on a street-to-street parcel spanning over a quarter-acre, the white stucco structure greets with walls and gates. Once inside, four bedrooms and a matching number of baths are filtered across just over 4,000 square feet of two-level living space that was highly customized to the sister’s personal tastes in collaboration with L.A.-based architect Nicolò Bini, as seen in a 2019 Architectural Digest article.
An upper-level entry flows to a formal living room displaying a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace and walls of windows, while an emerald-lacquered dining room sports a rattan monkey chandelier. An all-white kitchen is outfitted with a marble-topped center island and stainless appliances, and an ensuite guest bedroom boasts hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper depicting monkeys and toucans, plus sliding glass doors spilling out to a wraparound balcony.
On the lower level, there’s an oversized Art Deco-themed master retreat, along with a bonus room that could be used as a recording studio, per the listing. A wet bar-equipped lounge/game room spills out to palm tree-laced grounds hosting a tile-lined pool and spa, built-in barbecue and fire-pit; and elsewhere is a tree-shaded al fresco dining deck and two-car garage.
Cara, 30, a model-turned-actress who appeared in the movies “Paper Towns,” “Pan” and “Suicide Squad,” has upgraded to an 8,000-square-foot Studio City mansion she paid $7 million for in late 2019. As for Usher, 43, he went on a home-selling frenzy beginning in late 2018, unloading a Spanish villa above the Sunset Strip, as well as two properties in Atlanta — one a mansion in the Alpharetta suburb, and the other just minutes away from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium where the Atlanta Falcons play.
