Back in 2014, Sarah Brightman put her extensively revamped Santa Monica home up for sale, asking $3.2 million. At the time, the international superstar soprano was preparing for travel to the International Space Station, where she aimed to be first professional musician to sing in space, though she ultimately cancelled her trip, citing “personal family reasons.”
Brightman eventually withdrew the listing and rented the Westside home out for a few years. Now she’s trying her luck once again, this time pitching the Cape Cod-style residence onto the market with a $3.6 million ask. Records reveal she originally purchased the Rustic Canyon-area spread for $1.65 million in 2011.
Sited on a tree-lined lot that spans .15 acres and lies just minutes from the beach, the 3,000-square-foot structure was built circa 1941 and features a single-level, airy floorplan with walnut floors, big picture windows, skylights and soaring ceilings throughout.
The listing held by Sandro Dazzan of The Agency highlights the home’s stylish living room, where there are built-in bookshelves and a linear fireplace set into an attractive rock wall. A Carrara marble-clad kitchen outfitted with stainless steel appliances, a breakfast bar and adjoining dining area is flanked by a second fireplace, this one faux.
The master retreat opens to a tile patio and roomy cabana, and sports a walk-in closet with custom cabinetry, plus a spa-inspired bath with a soaking tub and dual vanities. There are three additional bedrooms in the main house, and a potential fifth bedroom in the detached studio/guesthouse, which includes a kitchenette and powder room, plus a two-car garage and additional driveway parking for up to four cars. Outside, a whimsical white picket fence surrounds the property.
A classically-trained singer and actress, Brightman is probably best-known for her “Time to Say Goodbye” duet with Andrea Bocelli. The world’s biggest-selling soprano — with more than 180 gold and platinum awards in 40-plus countries — she was also married to Andrew Lloyd-Weber from 1984 to 1990; today, the 60-year-old English-born performer is preparing for a worldwide “Hymn in Concert” tour and hosting a singalong challenge on her popular TikTok channel.
