Thomas Edward Percy Hull, more commonly and amusingly known in the music industry as Kid Harpoon, signed on to the influential Young Turks record label — now called just Young — and released a couple of not especially successful albums before he went on to pen and produce a slew of pop ditties for an impressive roster of chart-topping pop singers.
He co-wrote a number of songs for Florence + the Machine’s seminal sophomore album “Ceremonials,” and since then has worked with heavy hitters like Calvin Harris, Lykke Li and Jessie Ware, the latter of whom co-hosts a particularly charming podcast with her “chef extraordinaire mum Lennie.”
More recently Harpoon co-wrote and produced a bunch of songs on Harry Style’s second consecutive number one album, “Fine Line,” including the Grammy winning single “Watermelon Sugar,” and though his efforts at writing and producing Shawn Mendes’ 2020 album “Wonder” were deemed unoriginal and “naive,” it nonetheless debuted at number one in both Canada and the United States.
All that writing and producing for top talent has enabled the 39-year-old to purchase a not quite $3.8 million home in L.A.’s Hollywood Hills. The sellers, per property records, were married actors Sally Pressman and David Clayton Rogers, who turned a tidy profit on the home they scooped up just over two years ago for $2.8 million.
Originally built in the mid-1960s but since updated to feature smooth concrete exterior walls offset with trendy black window frames, the close-to-4,100-square-foot family-sized two-story home has five bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms and clean-lined and contemporary open-plan living spaces that flow easily out to the backyard.
The property was listed with Stefani Stolper Schmacker and Kevin Stolper of The Stolper Group at Compass. Harpoon was repped by Justin Paul Huchel at Hilton & Hyland.
