Keeping it all in the creative family, multiplatinum-selling songwriter and recording artist Mozella — born Maureen McDonald — has bought a delightful little Tudor home in Santa Monica from a Los Angeles PR guru who specializes in promoting the contemporary art world. Records reveal Mozella paid Sara Fitzmaurice of Fitz & Co. just over $5 million for the property, originally listed for nearly $5.2 million. Fitzmaurice picked up the place back in 2018 for $4.7 million.
An accomplished songstress (“Anything is Possible,” “Love is Endless,” “Can’t Get Enough”), Mozella is probably best known for co-writing some of the biggest pop hits of the past decade, including Miley Cyrus’ No. 1 smash “Wrecking Ball,” One Direction’s chart-topping “Perfect,” Charlie Puth’s “One Call Away” and Kelly Clarkson’s Grammy-nominated “Love So Soft.” The 40-year-old Detroit native also has collaborated with the likes of Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Tinashe, Madonna, Nick Jonas and Pink.
Perched high atop a hill, in the desirable North of Montana neighborhood, Mozella’s new residence is mostly hidden away from the street by a screen of towering cypress trees. A brick walkway with steps begins at the expansive driveway off to the side, and then leads under a gated trellis and by a grassy fenced lawn before spilling out at the attractive stucco and dormer-windowed house. Resting on a 0.23-acre parcel, the 2,808-square-foot, two-story structure features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, along with a detached guest house.
A fairly nondescript front door opens into a foyer, which leads into a fireside living room overlooking lush greenery via divided-light windows. From there, a formal dining room and a breakfast nook both have French doors that open to an al fresco dining patio. The breakfast nook abuts a gourmet kitchen outfitted with high-end Thermador, Wolf, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, plus a butcher block island with a prep sink. Elsewhere on the lower level is a bedroom with an adjacent bath.
Upstairs, a spacious primary suite sports a sitting area that leads to a balcony offering up treetop and mountain views. An updated bath is equipped with a frameless shower and massive soaking tub, and there’s also a large walk-in closet. Two additional bedrooms can be found on this floor, as well as another bath. Outdoors, the private tree-lined backyard hosts a pool and raised spa surrounded, by a sundeck, lounge area and an outdoor shower. The aforementioned guest house was recently remodeled, complete with a bedroom, kitchenette and bath
Kate Bransfield of Coldwell Banker Realty held the listing; the buyer was repped by Cynthia Perez-Brown of Sotheby’s International Realty.
