Back in 2018, Leonardo Dicaprio splashed out millions to buy Moby’s fully upgraded Los Feliz home, a 1920s English Tudor Revival shrouded behind towering walls of impenetrable hedges in the hills surrounding Griffith Park. Though the property is certainly fit for a high-profile celebrity — equipped with five bedrooms, seven baths and a high-tech security system — DiCaprio never actually lived in the house. Instead, the place was occupied by his father, New York native George DiCaprio.
Last May, the younger DiCaprio upgraded his dad to an even more impressive, $7.1 million mansion elsewhere in Los Feliz. Soon thereafter, the former Moby house was unsurprisingly put up for sale, asking $5.7 million.
It took some months, but the house has finally sold, albeit for a heavily discounted $4.9 million — $10,000 less than DiCaprio paid four years ago. And the bargain-minded new owner happens to be another famous musician: Los Angeles native Miguel, who recently sold his longtime Playa Del Rey home for $2.1 million.
The roughly 4,600-square-foot Los Feliz digs were sold to Miguel with obviously staged interiors, which are somewhat generic in their all-white glory but still feature original details — French doors, vaulted ceilings and three fireplaces enhanced by intricate moldings. On the main level, there’s a large family room with built-in bookshelves, plus formal living and dining rooms. The kitchen, which was completely redone during Moby’s ownership, boasts quartz countertops and Viking appliances, plus a walk-in pantry. A breakfast nook boasts banquette seating, while an intimate outdoor terrace is perfect for al fresco dining. Also out yonder is a swimming pool and spa surrounded by majestic pine trees.
The home’s basement level includes a guest/staff bedroom with its own discreet private entrance, plus space for storage or a home gym; up on the top floor are four more bedrooms, two of them substantially larger than the others and all four with ensuite bathrooms. One of the larger suites includes a bonus room that could be a yoga studio or sitting/reading area.
Raised in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, Miguel first came to prominence roughly a dozen years ago with the release of his “All I Want Is You” debut album. But the R&B crooner really didn’t emerge as a viable contender until 2012’s “Kaleidoscope Dream,” his second studio album, which was a massive critical success. Follow-up albums “Wildheart” and “War & Leisure” extended Miguel’s acclaim, and he took home a 2013 Grammy Award for his “Adorn” hit single. The 36-year-old has been married to model/actress Nazanin Mandi since 2018.
As for DiCaprio, he still owns many other homes. Besides his dad’s new Los Feliz digs, the Oscar-winner holds title to the a midcentury modern vacation house in Palm Springs, a $23 million vacant lot atop Malibu’s Paradise Cove, a $14 million oceanfront house elsewhere in Malibu, a $10 million Beverly Hills mansion and several luxury condos in Manhattan. But his main residence remains a three-house, four-parcel compound way high up in L.A.’s Bird Streets neighborhood.
